L'Auberge de la Tour

Our history

Julien Ricail has been familiar with the world of gastronomy and hotel management inside out for ages: his parents, Jules and Michèle Ricail, were at the head of the hotel and restaurant "L'Aubépine" in Beauraing near Givet for many years.

While Julien's passion is now in the kitchen, when he was younger he was attracted by serving customers. It was during his training at the hotel management school in Namur that he developed his talent for cooking. Year after year, he gained in confidence. After his training, and in order to be polyvalent, he decided to complete another year in the pastry, catering, chocolate and sugar section at Ceria, a school in Brussels. Now holding numerous diplomas in hotel management, this superb cordon-bleu cook won the first prize in the competition "Ambiance culinaire" in 2003.

In July 2004, Julien, only 22 years old, wished to add a new dimension to his professional career. The opportunity arose back in Givet, where he took over management of l'Auberge de la Tour, a restaurant run earlier by Daniel Dardenne.

Investments, transformations, new decoration - the restaurant, located on the Quai des Tours across from Tour Victoire (whence the name "l'Auberge de la Tour"), has already forged a sound reputation for itself.

But Julien has other ambitions. In January 2005, he bought "Les Mouettes", a restaurant owned by Mr and Mrs Cornibé. This establishment, adjoining l'Auberge de la Tour, is currently undergoing major construction work.

Our values

With help from his wife, Elise, and a team of six employees, Julien is doing everything to please his customers - local customers, but also customers from outside Quiévrain and tourists. Here, the menus offered are adapted to seasonal products, with local products in the limelight, of course. A menu of the month adds a plus, meeting the demands of gourmets. As for prices, they vary according to the menu from 15.95 € to 39 €. And to top it off, the wine list offers a choice of some 150 labels.

A warm welcome, a convivial atmosphere - l'Auberge de la Tour also reflects a fine artistic image, as witnessed by the paintings hung in the restaurant.
